Situated in the heart of a hilly area in the green region of Umbria, Terni is a quite modern town, which however it keeps several traces of its history, from the roman period to the Middle Ages, from papal domination to its role in World War II.
In Terni beside the early Christian St. Salvatore Church and the Gothic St. Francis Church, also several public buildings deserve a visit: among them, Palazzo Manassei, which houses the Pinacotheca and Palazzo Carrara.
Terni is mainly an industrial centre: the Steel Plants have been the symbol of the town for a long time.
In the surroundings, Orvieto and Narni are interesting tourist resorts, as well as the Marmore waterfalls.
