Hotels Conegliano

Conegliano is an elegant and colorful ancient city, which rises in the heart of the "Marca Trevigiana" along the Monticano river, in a territory characterized by gentle hills covered by vineyards. The locality is renowned for its white wines (Prosecco in particular) and for the production of grappa, that are central to the economy of the district. Italy's first wine-growers college was set uo in Conegliano in 1876, and the city hosts an important festival of grappa every year in september. Tourists can go on the Wine Routes that cross this zone, like the famous Strada del Prosecco, a 42 km journey west to Valdobbiadene.

In the past the village was famous as important military outpost for who came from East North and the historical center conserve the medieval urban style characterized by a net of small street. The most important building is the dome, going back to the XIV century, that conserve the magnificent altarpiece of The Madonna and Child with Saints and Angels, painted in 1493 by Gianbattista Cima, the most famous native of Conegliano.
In Cima square, not far from the dome, the Theatre dell'Accademia planned by Andrea da Scala in 1868 can be admired.

The Civic Museum deserves a visit, that is housed in the tower of the castle on top of the hill that dominates the village, reacheble in a short time on foot, and that conserve some frescoes by Pordenone. Moreover the climb through the floors culminates on the tower's roof, from where we get a fine view across the beautiful landscape.
