Hotels Montepulciano

Montepulciano is famous for its renommed wine "Nobile" and it boasts the wonders of a charming historical centre.
On the hill top is set the splendid Piazza Grande with the Cathedral and the Town Hall emcircled by Rainaissance Palaces but you may discover more churches and dwellings stepping up and down the ancient streets of the various hamlets.
Montepulciano is said to have been founded by Porsenna, the Etruscan king and it still exhibits an impressive well kept architecture, mainly but not only Renaissance.
Famous artists worked here as Baldassarre Peruzzi, Michelozzo, Vignola and Antonio da Sangallo il Vecchio who designed the temple of San Biagio.
The local economy is based on the town's famous Vino Nobile and Rosso di Montepulciano and on August 29 a wine barrel race named "Bravìo" take part.
It is a competition amid the different hamlets of the town running up and down the streets and there is a procession in 13th-century dress.
Montepulciano is the largest Municipality in Valdichiana at it has six other villages: Abbadia di Montepulciano, Acquaviva di Montepulciano, Gracciano, Montepulciano Stazione, S. Albino and Valiano.
