Modena holidays on line art city country travel Modena hotels residence villas self-catering holidays accommodation in Modena. Modena is set along the Via Emilia, in the Po Valley between the rivers Panaro and Secchia and it is named the City of the Ghirlandina.
The region boasts many industrial activities and has also other important agricultural and commercial activities in the surroundings.
Piazza Grande is the center of Modena and in the square you can admire the medieval cathedral and the Ghirlandina tower.
Both monuments have been recognised by Unesco as heritage of mankind.
Also in teh Piazza Grande you can visit the Town Hall, a palace composed of various buildings that sprang up over the centuries starting in the Middle Ages and that is still today seat of the Municipality.
In the nearest Piazza Roma you will find the 17th century Ducal Palace, headquarters of the Military Academy and coming back to via Emilia you can continue towards Piazza Sant'Agostino where you can visit the beautiful church and admire the splendid "Mourning the body of Christ" by Begarelli.
Still on the same side where the church rises, is the Palazzo dei Musei, the seat of many prestigious cultural institutes, such as the Municipal Museums, the Estense Gallery housing one of the most important Italian collections which reflects the interest the Estenses had in painting and sculpture, but also in archaeology and other minor arts, the Estense Epigraphic Museum with many exhibits of high artistic value and the Estense Library which preserves precious illuminated codes from the 14th to the 16th century.
Furthermore, there have always been close ties between Modena region and motor racing.
Modena is certainly home to the motor industry becouse here there has always been a passion for mechanical engineering, so that the myth of speed has become an important part of its culture.
Ferrari, Maserati and Lamborghini, names synonymous with international prestige, leading-edge technology and impeccable elegance, were born in this region.
Racing cars and luxury cars have entered the realms of legend, becoming collector's items, taking the name of Modena with them out into the world.
Another important point is due to the ceramic tiles industry area, for the production of the artistic, technological and commercial of this Italian style craftmade product.
