Rimini is a sunny city set on the Adriatic Coast, the most famous bathing center well known both in Italy and aborad. It rises beside the mouth of the Marecchia river where a time the via Flaminia, Popilia and Emilia were linked. A beautiful city that today offers a remarkable hote industry and placed side by side to the hotel tourist receptivity it boasts a Fair Pole of optimal level.

The territory where today the city of Rimini rises it was once called Ariminum, already from the Roman age. Ariminum knew a period of intense public activities and participations, just during the Augustean period, like the aqueduct and the sewerage net, that they go back to the time of Domiziano. Later on, the city was theatre of fights between Goths and Byzantines and it was these last ones that gave a new political-administrative order to the conquered territories.
On the origins of the city of Rimini only little news are known still today. To the end of the XII century it was introduced the figure of the podestà, in substitution of the consuls and in 1157 the common of Rimini obtains a privilege from the emperor Federico Barbarossa, thanks to which every straight on its territory recognizes the faculty to mint currency.
To the continuous wars with the near cities, in particular Cesena and Pesaro, add also the several religious contrasts and it is with Malatesta del Verucchio that the city becomes the center of a Signoria, a Lordship.
The 1700's it is a century of great cultural activities, where the scientific and historical studies progress. Rimini like all the Romagna region, is detached in 1859 from the Papal State and by a plebiscite, it comes ratified the annexation to the Reign of Sardinia.

Rimini introduces also various interesting monuments to visit, among which the Arc of Augusto, the Arengo Palace, the Galli Theatre that was inaugurated in 1857 with the Aroldo opera play by Verdi. The city of Rimini is also center of many museums: the City Museum, "Dinz Rialto" Museum of the extra-European Cultures, Museum of the Aviation, National Museum of the Motorcycle, the Missionary Museum and today even the virtual Museum of the bathing civilization.
