Reggio Calabria is the regional capital and the largest trade center. The town is set in a magnificent location overlooking the east coast of the Strait of Messina, dominated by the mountain chain of Aspromonte. The climate of the area is very mild throughout the year, with long summers characterized by a pleasant breeze. Thanks to its beautiful landscapes, its long beaches and the remarkable artistic heritage, tourism is the primary source of wealth for the city. In the surrounding territory is particularly developed the cultivation of citrus fruits, including the famous bergamot.
Reggio Calabria is one of the oldest colonies of Magna Greece, which was considered very important at the strategic level as required for passage routes between the Tyrrhenian Sea and east. Unfortunately, the old town retains very little evidence of its rich past as a result of several earthquakes that have hit this area in history.
