Vieste is a small typical town located in the Gargano National Park extreme point, offering valuable beach establishements and hotel resorts, a very much demanded destination attended by tourists from all over Europe.
Since 1963, the international tourism has had a great impulse not only in Vieste but also along all the Gargano coastline, in which wide calm beaches and cale alternate with many campings, hotel clubs and lodges, ideal for tourist and holiday accommodation, offering a serene healthy vacation.
The historical center of Vieste rises on a sheer cliff stretching towards the Adriatic sea with the Castle and the Cathedral. In the flat part of the small peninsula it extends the nineteenth-century and modern part, while on the rocky spur is set the colorful medieval village, characterized by tight and not aligned roads, with the typical houses bearing external perrons (mignali) or some are joined by exile archs. The main square conserve an authentic rarity: a rope clock of the XIX century and from the neighbor via Giudea, that anciently accommodated the Jewish zone, one gets to the Chiesa Matrice dell'Assunta. The church was constructed in 1295 in Renaissance and Baroque style, and in the inside it conserve a XVI century beautiful inlaid wooden pulpit, a beautiful christening font dating back to 1776 and an extraordinary chorus in wood enriched with paintings of great value, among which is the splendid polittico of Bartolomeo Vivarini.
Moreover, the territory of the Gargano, stretches on the sea and it is subject to any kind of wind, it is ideal for the windsurf lovers, granting them the joy and pleasure of sailing in the immensity of the sea. Who loves to travel and discover the surrounding region, can visit the evocative marine coves along the southern coast of Vieste, the fascinating Tremiti islands, the cove of Saint Michele at Monte Sant'Angelo, the Saint Pio Father Basilic in San Giovanni Rotondo or move in the near Umbra Forest.
