Castagneto Carducci is a charming village situated south of Livorno, in the Costa degli Etruschi but on the top of a hill dominated by the Castle of the Gherardesca and the Church of San Lorenzo. The center of the village is characterized from a ring outline concentrates with roads, alleys and small squares that go around the Castle that in the past time it has had many restructurimg works, and to the parochial church that dates back probably tothe year 1000.
Donoratico is the most modern locality in the Castagneto Carducci community and in spite of this, its name ihas more ancient origins. In fact, in the Middle Ages it existed already an imposing castle said of "Donoratico" and of which they are still visible some rests of the walls and the tower, that it dominates the countryside below. Most probably as the castle it was destroyed also the monastry of San Colombano that rose at the feet of a hill. The tower is accessible to the visitors and in the vicinities are set some Etruscan graves in a secluded private property wood,
Bolgheri is a charming hamlet set on a little height at the end of the famous Cypresses Boulevard that stretches up from San Guido world wide famous wineries. The Medieval hamlet is surrounded by vineyards, woodsand it boasts a beatiful sea view over the Mediterranean lush and the well-tilled plains.
Bolgheri is linked to Castagneto Carducci, its municipality borough, by the beautiful Via Bolgherese, a famous boulevard along the wine road, full of charming Italian styled ranches producing rare wine bottles. Through the mighty arch of medieval castle you will get into the Bolgheri historic village and indoors whee in the ancient lanes, many little shops of all kinds spring up and where you may taste and buy the typical regional specialities. Italian poet Giosuč Carducci lived here in between 1838 and 1848 and chanted it in its lines so that this village became well known in Italy and all over the world.
