Jesi was probably founded by the Umbrians the once named it “Aesis” referring it to the Esino river.
During the oast Jesi was an important Roman colony since and later it was conquered and destroyed first by Goths and then by Longobards.
In the year 756 Jesy revived under Pipino’s donation to the Church and in the 11th century it became a "Comune".
Under the Swabians dinasty Jesi was a Ghibelline town until Manfredi and in 1305 it passed to the Church.
In 1328 the town got back to the Imperial side and became allied of Osimo in order to fight against Ancona.
In 1477, back to the Church dominion, it fighted against Ancona and won again.
Jesi was one of the first towns in Italy to introduce the typographic art and Federico de Conti from Verona printed the Divine Comedy in 1472.
Swabian King Frederic II was born in Jesi (1194) as well as other famous Angelo Colucci (1467), Lucagnolo di Ciccolino (late XV century) and Giovan Battista Pergolesi (1710) who composed the "Stabat mater" music.
