Anguillara Sabazia is a beatiful locality that is set on a promontory on the Lake Bracciano shores, in the north of Rome. The village, which is placed in an enviable position is a very demand destination for its evocative landscaped, the optimal cook and above all for its important historical and cultural heritage.
The village was popolated already in roman age as it testifies the splendid rests of villas of the I and II century a.C. In the medioeval period the wealthy Roman families dispute the ownership of Anguillara Sabazia, that became a possession of the Anguillara family, then of the Roman Church and later on of the Orsini that in the end of the XVII century sold the territory to the Grillo family. The village has maintained its medieval features and it is dominated by the imposing Orsini castle. A sixteenth-century monumental gate with a tower clock gets to the Piazza del Comune where it is set the Baronale Palace boasting beautiful frescoes, while in the eighteenth-century Collegiata dell'Assunta there are interesting paintings. In the waters of Lake Bracciano it has been discovered the first neolithic village of Europe that dates back to 5.500 years ago.
Beyond to its palaces and artistic beauties Anguillara Sabazia offers the splendid territory of the lake, crowded in summer for its restaurants, pizzerie and for the possibility to practice sport activity like tennis, football, golf and fishes.
