Caorle is a renowned seaside resort of the Veneto set on the Adriatic sea between the Livenza and Tagliamento rivers, at east of the Venice lagoon.
The main attraction of the city is represented by the sandy beach that extends for 18 km, with equipped lidos. Sometime behind the shoreline are still present the dunes and Mediterranean wood, where it is possible to make pleasant walks in the warm summery days.
Although its reputation of modern tourist locality Caorle has conserved the characteristics of the village of fishermen, very involved to its traditions.
The lagoon is a wild territory with a rich fauna, where we can see the “cason”, the typical constructions covered with reeds used by the fishermen for place the nets and the tools for peach. This area was very loved by the american writer Ernest Hemingway, than here found inspiration for its story “Across the River and Into the Trees”.
Caorle boasts over 2000 years of history and it can offer to the tourist also interesting artistic and cultural dulls. The origins of the city are in the roman age when it was an important port, and after the fall of the empire became a subject of the Venice Repubbli, to which it supplies ships and sailors in its gold period.
In the main square of the village we can visit the Cathedral of 1038 and the cylindrical bell tower, considered the symbol of the city for its unique shape. The inside of the Cathedral conserve the Pala d'Oro, in bizanthine style, that was donated by the Queen of Cyprus in 1489. An other religious building rises on the tip of the bay, the Santuario della Madonna dell'Angelo, considered the most ancient church of the village, that conserve beautiful frescoes.
