Hotel Gallicano.

The small town of Gallicano is situated along the banks of the Turrite torrent just to the outlet in the Serchio river, at the entrance doors of the Garfagnana region, facing to the splendid medieval city of Barga.

Gallicano is a graceful center in the Province of Lucca that you can reach up from Borgo a Mozzano driving along the via Lodovica that leads to Castelnuovo di Garfagnana flanking the Serchio, or from Bagni di Lucca on the state road SS nr. 12 dell'Abetone, if you come flanking the Lima torrent.

This part of Garfagnana has been ever since an active zone well asset in handicraft and manufacturing, succeeding in taking advantage of its territory nature resources, like the waters of the Turrite torrent, those of the Serchio river and the iron mines in the Pania massif.
People tells that also one of the first industries of firearms arose in the Gallicano zone around the end of the XIV century, and it seems in fact that already in 1383 a man named Giovanni Zappetta produced bombards for the Republic of Lucca.

But the village of Gallicano has more ancient origins and still nowadays one can see the traces of the roman urban system on which the village had been originally built up. Under the artistic profile, the more important building of this small town it is surely the Pieve di San Jacopo that dominates the inhabited center. The church was constructed early before the year 1000 and it still conserves valuable works of art, as a great 'pala di terracotta' of the Della Robbia school and a statue of Saint Jacopo at the center of the apse.

As far as tourism, Gallicano is the node of communication in order to get in the heart of the Garfagnana and on the Apuan Alps, to reach up therefore the wonderful massif of the Pania, to visit the Eremo di Calomini, to discover famous coves as the Grotta del Vento in Fornovolasco.

All the zone offers many simple accommodation in farm holidays and vacation houses, but there are also small hotels and lodges, guest houses or bed and breakfast in a position to satisfying any stay requirement. Furthermore the typical food of the zone is very tasty and cheap, it is mostly based on the genuinity of the local simple kitchen products and wines.
