Hotel Agropoli.

Agropoli is a seaside resort set in the famous Cilento region, south of the plain of Sele. The village is situated on a beautiful promontory and it's surrounded by olive groves and chestnut woods. This area has been inhabited by Greeks, who founded the nearby Poseidonia, and then by the Romans, when the seaside town called Ercula developed and flourished. The Byzantine however fortified for first this place giving it the name of "Akropolis", that means high town. During the Middle Ages this stretch of coast was attacked several times by Saracen pirates who sacked the territory and the inhabitants dwindled to only a few hundred.

Agropoli is overcomed by the medieval village, heaped on the headland, which retains most of the defensive walls and which is accessed through a large doorway. The historical center houses the Castle, built by the Byzantines in the sixth century and that was adjusted several times over the centuries, up to the latest changes made by Aragoneses. Also worth visiting the Church of Saints Peter and Paul, set right on the top of promontory. From this location we can enjoy a wonderful view on the Salerno gulf up to Capri.

The modern center, down below, boasts a vivacious main-street with many shops, bars and restaurants. From here we can reach the coast which stretches for almost 3 Km with a series of small bays and inlets. In the north of the village there is a long sandy beach arriving up to Paestum.
The locality is equipped with a touristic port, where in the summer leave boats that reach the islands of Capri and Ischia.
Agropoli is also near the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park, a wide area of great historical and natural interest.
