Capo d'Orlando is a renowned seaside resort that overlooks the Tyrrhenian Sea, in the province of Messina. The city is set on a promontory that wedges in one of the most beautiful stretch of sea in Sicily. According to legend it was founded by Agatirno, son of Aeolus, at the time of the Trojan war and for a long time the village retained the name of its founder. The present name was given by the Normans, when the famous knight Orlando stopped in these places during his journey to the Holy Land. More than three thousand years of history and legend, have bequeathed a rich artistic heritage that fits perfectly in the beautiful landscape.

On the extreme cape of its territory there are the Sanctuary of Santissima Maria and the Castle, the main monuments of Capo d'Orlando. The two buildings lie on a truly fascinating place overhanging the sea and they can be reached only through a staircase of more than one hundred steps. The castle stands on the ruins of an ancient building and it had function defense and warning against pirates. Nowaday of the original structure still remains only a ruin because of a siege that in 1398 destroyed the fortress. Recently were found in this area coins and jewels which confirm the existence of the village already in the antiquity.

Capo d'Orlando is part of the Nebrodi Park, an organization that protects the rich natural and historical heritage of this area. In addition to sea, exceptionally clear, this stretch of coastline is characterized by beautiful bluffs and cliffs surrounded by a large Mediterranean scrub. The main beach of the city is San Gregorio, which lies in front of the beautiful promenade until to the port. At present Capo d'Orlando lives a perfect balance between past and present and here take place artistic's activities and enjoyments that attract a large numbers of tourists.
