Hotel Favignana.

Favignana is the largest island in the Egadi archipelago, including Marettimo and Levanzo. The Egadi are a reserve marino-paesaggistica and a renowned tourist destination located just a few miles from the westernmost tip of Sicily. The islands are accessible from Trapani thanks to a service ferries and hydrofoils, which during the summer are doubled. Favignana has an area of approximately 19 km² and is also known under the name of butterfly for its shape recalling this animal with wings. The highest peak is Mount St. Catherine that is 314 meters above the sea level.

For who comes from the sea, the island is divided into two parts. The eastern part is flat and covered with a dense vegetation while the western one is more rocky and sparsely inhabited. The first inhabitants of Favignana were the Phoenicians who founded the first settlement of which are still visible some remains. Of Roman age remain the excavation of the famous "Baths of Women", tanks in the limestone adorned with splendid mosaics. After the fall of Rome followed many dominations that impoverish the island, until 1874 when it was bought by Ignatius Florio who implanted the largest European plant for the processing of fish.

Even today in the port is visible the old tuna industry, very active up to half of the twentieth century. Fishermen on the island still practice the traditional practice of "mattanza", a spectacle very appreciated by tourists who are housed on board vessels. The main town, built in the seventeenth century on the medieval ruins, offers the beautiful Chiesa Madre and the Villa Florio, the summer residence of the family. Favignana boasts a great variety of small beaches and coves for all tastes. Lido Burrone is the largest one, completely sandy and ideal for families thanks to its low sea bed. Cala Rossa, instaed, is characterized by white tufa rocks which contrast with the intense blue of the sea.
