Pantelleria is the largest island of Sicily with an area of 83 km², set halfway between the Sicilian and the African coast. The characteristic shape, a succession of craters and depressions, in addition to numerous thermal springs scattered along the coast will testify to its volcanic origin. The soil, formed by lava rocks, presents the typical dark color that gave the island the nickname of "black pearl of the Mediterranean".
