Apartment Palmi

Palmi is a renowned resort set a few kilometers from Reggio Calabria. The town lies on a coastal plain overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, in a stretch of coastline called Costa Viola, for the characteristic color of its sea. In particularly clear days on the horizon we can see the profile of Sicily, distant a few miles. Behind the village raises the imposing Mount St. Elia, on whose summit there is a broad terrace from which one can admire a breathtaking panorama. The city's economy is based mainly on agriculture and tourism bathing.

The first written documents of Palmi go back to the fourteenth century, but its origins are perhaps earlier, when it was born as a refuge for residents of Taurianum, the ancient roman city destroyed in 951 by the Saracens. The name probably derives from the presence of palm trees, which were numerous in the surrounding countryside. Throughout history the town has undergone several natural disasters, the last of which in 1908, has completely destroyed all the historic buildings. Nowaday the village has a modern and regular structure, with large roads and beautiful squares.

In the city center there is the Museum of Ethnography and Folklore Calabria, where explains all regional traditions. Inside we can see the typical costumes, handicrafts and handmade pottery made by artists of the area. Very interesting is also the Antiquarium, which houses valuable works of art, including some paintings by Monet and Modigliani. A few kilometers from the town lies the village of Lido di Palmi, set on a beautiful bay characterized by fine sand and surrounded by picturesque cliffs. The most important attraction of this locality is the "scoglio dell'ulivo", a small rock in the midst of the sea upon which stands an olive tree.
