Hotel Scilla.

Scilla is a small town which lies on a rocky promontory near the Strait of Messina, a few kilometers north of Reggio Calabria. The village still retains the typical structure of the fishing village, with narrow streets and old houses close to each other. On the extremity of the promontory there is a small port that hosts the "spatare", the typical boats for fishing. Thanks to its natural beauty, renowned cuisine and the hospitality of local people, Scilla is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Calabria.

Around the origins of the city there are many legends, but the first testimonies on its existence dates back to the fifth century b.C. In Greek and Roman period the village maintained a certain fame thanks to its port, particularly active. In the historical center, deserve a visit the seventeenth-century church of Spirito Santo, with a beautiful baroque facade. Very impressive is also the castle, erected by Ruffo family in the sixteenth century, which stands on the tip of the promontory. From here you can enjoy an excellent view, which includes the Aeolian islands. Also worthy of note is the characteristic museum of swordfish, which in this area is used in many dishes.

In the territory of Scilla there are the coastal hamlets of Marina Grande and Chianalea. The first one boasts a long stretch of beach alonge almost one kilometer between two ridges of granite rock. The coastline is characterized by a very fine gravel that gives the sea a particularly intense color. To the north there is another beach resort, Chianalea, which offers a beach much shorter and consisting mainly of rocks and reefs. A feature of this area is the presence of some houses close to the sea, so that has been nicknamed the "little Venice".
