Hotel Nicotera.

Nicotera is a pretty village set on a natural terrace that overlooks the magnificent bay of Gioia Tauro. At his foot lies the fertile plains of Rosarno, full of citrus, vineyards and orchards. From this plateau you can admire in the sunny days a unique view, which ranges from the peaks of Aspromonte up to the distant shores of Sicily. The urban structure still retains the characteristics of the old town, made by a tangle of narrow streets from time to time develop into squares with some small houses.

In Roman age Nicotera was one of the most important cities of southern Italy. The village was completely abandoned in the tenth century because of frequent invasions Saracen. With the arrival of Normans the village returned to its former splendor and it was equipped with a castle and cathedral. The two buildings are still visible but have suffered in the course of history many restructuring. The castle is located in the upper part of the village, with large terraces and towers from which we dominate the entire coastline. Inside it houses the Archaeological Museum, which preserves precious prehistoric finds and also bronzes and ceramics by Greek and Roman age.

The cathedral was rebuilt in the eighteenth century in baroque style and inside you can see the Madonna delle Grazie. Not far there is the Palazzo Vescovile that houses sculptures and works of art sacred. Nicotera has also the fraction of Marina, which stretches at the foot of the old part. During the summer period the locality is a destination for many tourists, thanks to its long beaches of white sand and its exceptionally clear sea. The village is equipped with modern bathing establishments and it boasts famous restaurants where you can enjoy the extraordinary local cuisine.
