Guardia Piemontese is a small city in the province of Cosenza, set on a rocky spur overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. The village is divided into two parts. The old town lies on the hilltop and still maintains the typical medieval structure, characterized by a maze of narrow streets and surrounded by defensive walls. The streets are paved with different stones and in the main square stands a tower of warning, visible also from far. The modern district develops along the coast and it is a popular seaside resort, equipped with modern bathing establishments.

Guardia Piemontese has the peculiarity of being the only language enclave of south Italy. As testimony to the name, the town was founded at the time of Frederick I of Swabia by a group of refugees Waldenses coming from Piedmont region, fleeing from the persecutions of Catholic church. Their traditions have been handed down over the centuries and have made this village unique, for the union between the north and south culture. The village's main monument is the Church of St. Andrew the Apostle, where there is an interesting carved choir of the seventeenth century.

Also worth visiting the Museum della Tradizione Contadina, who keeps testimony on the history of peasants and Waldenses. A few kilometers from Guardia Piemontese are the Lugane spa, the oldest and best known of Calabria. The spa is located in the beautiful valley of the Bagni river, covered by green woods. In the area there are sources of sulfur water of known therapeutic properties. In the spa various treatments are charged, with mud-baths to treat the body. Moreover, in a few minutes you can reach the sea, particularly clear in this stretch of coast.
