Ceriale is a small town on the western Coast of Liguria region. The village is set in Albenga plain at the foot of the Croce mount. This stretch of coastline is characterized by green hills that slope gently toward the sea. Ceriale is a famous seaside resort, very busy during the summer season for its mild climate and its wide sandy beach. Despite tourism, the village has maintained its agricultural tradition, and even today you can see extensive cultivation of vegetables and flowers.
Ceriale was born during the Middle Ages, although some archaeological evidence testify that the place was already inhabited during the Roman Empire. In the fourteenth century this small seaside village came under the domain of the Republic of Genoa. In 1563 an imposing tower was built to protect the inhabitants from pirate raids. Today this building is still visible from the main beach of the village. Of great interest is even the church of Saints John the Baptist and Eugenio, that inside preserves valuable works of art.
The main tourist attraction of Ceriale is certainly the beach, wide and sandy, and the sea. In this area the depths are particularly suitable for scuba-diving. The beautiful waterfront, characterized by large palm trees and colorful houses, is the true heart of the city. Here there are lidos, typical restaurants and clubs very popular in the summer. An alternative to the beach is the water park, which is a few kilometres from the centre. Also is worth visiting the hamlet of Peagna, an ancient medieval town with the fourteenth century church of St. John the Baptist.
