Levanto is a small town of Liguria region, in the province of La Spezia. The village is surrounded by a beautiful natural amphitheatre of hills covered with olive trees, vineyards and chestnut. The green valleys contrasts with the deep blue sea, giving rise to a landscape of extraordinary beauty. The picturesque village is formed by a small group of houses attacked between them that overlook the bay. The economy of the area is mainly based on tourism, both seaside that natural, thanks to the nearby Nature Park of Cinque Terre.

The origins of Levanto go back to the Roman Empire, when the town was a thriving commercial centre because of its strategic position. From the thirteenth century, the area fell under the control of the Republic of Genoa. In later centuries the village held a certain significance because it was along the Via Francigena. The town continued to grow, particularly along the coast, and it was equipped with beautiful palaces and churches. Despite tourism, in the old town are still visible traces of the ancient village, very attached to maritime and agricultural activities.

Levanto also offers interesting ideas of art and culture. The church of St. Andrea, built in the thirteenth century, has a beautiful facade with white and black bands. Inside there are interesting works of art, including a valuable crucifix of fourteenth century. Very impressive is the medieval castle, built to defend the population from attacks by pirates. But the real attractions of Levanto are its beautiful landscape, which you can admire walk along the many paths that this territory offers. From the village we can easily reach the famous Cinque Terre, both by train and by ferry.
