Arbatax is a small town in the province of Ogliastra, on the east coast of Sardinia. The village is set at the foot of the picturesque Cape Bellavista and is surrounded by a landscape of extraordinary beauty. The economy of the area is based primarily on fishing, thanks to the variety of fish and crustaceans, and on seaside tourism. The coast, characterized by small beaches and pretty coves, and the sea, exceptionally clear, every summer attracts thousands of tourists.

Arbatax has always been a fishing village and its first inhabitants came from the nearby island of Ponza. Its name is derived from an Arabic word meaning "the fourteenth tower". The town lies, in fact, around a mighty tower built in the sixteenth century to defend the people from frequent raids of pirate Saracens. Nowaday Arbatax is a renowned seaside resort, thanks to its natural beautys, and it boasts a very active tourist port, which can accommodate small recreational craft.

This area is known especially for Rocce Rosse, the scenic cliffs of red porphyry emerging from the sea. Very striking is the view that we can admire from the lookout at the lighthouse of Cape Bellavista. From the station of the village leaves a small tourist train that runs a very spectacular route along the coast. The territory surrounding Albatrax also boasts beautiful bays bathed by a clear sea. The most famous is Cala Moresca, where the red rocks contrasts with the intense blue of the water.
