Hotel Carloforte.

Carloforte is the only municipality of St. Peter's island, situated about 10 kilometres from the south-western coast of Sardinia. The village is located on a slope toned down depth to the sea on the eastern part of the island. The town has an urban structure and traditions that make it different from all other centres of Sardinia. Its first inhabitants were in fact settlers coming from Liguria and the village still maintains a strong relationship with this region. The economy of the area is based mainly on seaside tourism, thanks to its beautiful unspoilt landscapes.

The town was founded in 1738 by the King Charles Emmanuel of Savoy, in honor of which it was called Carloforte. To populate the area, then almost uninhabited, were called Ligurian fishermen coming from the island of Tabarca. That is why even nowaday the town is considered a little Genoa. The white houses, with small pretty balconies, develop long straight and narrow roads that lead to the waterfront. The historic center still keeps monuments of great interest.

Among these is worth visiting the fort Carlo Emanuele III of eighteenth century, which now houses the Civic Museum. Inside are set patterns and tuna boats, documenting the ancient activities of inhabitants. The church of St. Charles Borromeo, built in the eighteenth century, has valuable works of art, including a wooden statue of Madonna. But Carloforte is especially renowned for seaside tourism. The stretch of coastline around the village is mainly low and sandy. The largest beach is La Bobba, characterized by a white sand.
