Hotel Torre Mozza.

Torre Mozza is a small town in the province of Lecce. The village faces the Ionian Sea in the region of Salento, almost at the southern part of Puglia. The town owes its name to the presence of warning tower built in the sixteenth century that is still visible along the coast opposite the center. The economy of the area is mainly linked to the seaside tourism. During the winter, the villagge is inhabited by a few fishermen while in summer is frequented by thousands of tourists, thanks to the numerous hotels and holiday villages scattered along the coast.

The villagge has suffered a great development only in recent decades, as to the'30s this area was largely covered by marshes. The only historic building is the tower, built by the Spanish to defend the people from pirate raids. According to tradition, this imposing building was partially destroyed by lightning during a violent storm and for this reason has been given the name of Torre Mozza (cut off). Thanks to its beautiful coastline, predominantly sandy, and its sea with a low bottom, the town is nowaday a famous seaside resort.

This area is particularly appreciated by fans diving for the presence of a rich marine life. The stretch of coast around Torre Mozza is also full of fascinating sea caves, including the most famous is the Grotta dei Giganti, where bones of prehistoric animals were found. Very interesting is also the hinterland, characterized by small villagies dipped between large olive groves and vineyards. The main center is Ugento, lovely medieval town that boasts some historic monuments, such as the castle and the cathedral, of great charm.
