Hotel Torre San Giovanni.

Torre San Giovanni is a small coastal town in the province of Lecce. The villagge faces on the western side of Puglia, in the southern part of the splendid peninsula of Salento. The village is concentrated mainly along the coast around the sixteenth-century tower. The hinterland is characterized by vast farmland and pastures, with pretty villages scattered in the countryside. Only 5 km from Torre San Giovanni lies the town of Ugento, a picturesque medieval center surrounded by large olive groves.

The Ionian coast of Puglia is punctuated by towers of medieval origin that give the name to small bathing resort, immersed in a sometimes wild landscape. One of them is, precisely, Torre San Giovanni rising on the site of the ancient roman port of Ausentum. Even nowaday we can see some ruins dating back from the fourth century BC, which testify to the importance of the place. After the fall of the Roman Empire, the town was completely abandoned and the area was covered by vast marshes. Only at the beginning of the '900 the territory was reclaimed and the village returned to be inhabited. In winter it's a simple village of a few fishermen but in the summer turns into a lively seaside resort.

On the coast there are several hotels and holiday villages, which make Torre San Giovanni one of the most equipped tourist destinations of Puglia. The villagge also boasts a small tourist port. North of this, the coast is characterised by low cliffs while south there are large sandy beaches. The coast is surrounded by a beautiful pine forest that stretches almost to the sea, which in this part is exceptionally crystal. Opposite the coast there are some islands of volcanic origin, including the island of Le Pazze, already inhabited during the Iron Age.
