Pistoia is located in a charming position, at the foot of the Tuscan Apennines along the motorway A11 Florence to Pisa, in a plain set between the Ombrone torrent and the Montalbano hills.

City of roman foundation, Pistoia had an important role for the trans-apennines practicability and in the V century it endured a Gotic pillage. The Longobard domination was particularly meaningful and later on it passed to the emperors of Germany. In the XII century it became a free Ghibelline Common and the city had in this period its greater splendor, but it came defeat from the fights against Florence and attacks by Lucca that forced it to accept the Florentine protection, until in the XVI century the city was part of the Principality of Tuscany.

The Pretorio Palace is also a noble building going back to the XIV century with double lancet windows and coats of arms. Beautiful they are the churches constructed in the XII century, like San Bartolomeo with the arched facade in Pisa style, the church of S. Andrea with the evocative numerous white-green colors and the other churches like those of S. Giovanni, S. Francesco, the Madonna of Humility, San Domenico and San Paolo. Behind the public park it is set the imposing fortress of Santa Barbara. To visit moreover is the Ospedale del Ceppo, with the beautiful porch of the XVI century and the Museo Diocesano in the Rospigliosi Palace.

The most important economic activity in Pistoia is constituted by the agricultural companies distinguished for ornamental plant cultivations which are used in private and public gardens and parks.
