Val Gardena is a Ladin island in the heart of Dolomites, which it extends for 20 km from Ponte Gardena until Passo Gardena and Passo Sella. The valley is crossed by the Gardena river, which slides between plateaux and pastures encircled by imposing mountains. In the area still resist the typical handicraft activities of wood even if nowadays all the valley is popular above all for tourism.
In the winter season Val Gardena is one of the most demanded destinations in the Dolomites. The beautiful peaks of Sassolungo, Sciliar, Cir and Sella feature up to 175 km of slopes and 83 lifts of the Val Gardena-Alpe di Siusi skiing area system. The tracks which depart from Ortisei, Santa Cristina and Selva are well linked and with the cableways realized in the last year all the territory of Val Gardena and Alpe di Siusi are now reachable by ski.
In summer Val Gardena offers the possibility to take a walk, to climb, to ride mountain-bikes merged in nature. The valley boasts well marked paths and modern lift systems to reach the higher peaks. The stop over in the mountain huts are pleasant moments to refresh oneself or to shade during the summer days.
The most famous localities of Val Gardena are Ortisei, an ideal destination both in winter and in summer, characterized by many handycraft shops, Santa Cristina considered a prestigious alpine locality, and Selva Val Gardena, the ideal place for winter sports and mountain tracks, thanks to its strategic position at the foot of the Sella group.
